Work Title: Floating Whiteness · Symbiosis
Author:Richard Zeng, Rhino Bird Studio
Design Concept:Taking the form of gray-white corals as its visual carrier, this work constructs an undersea monument that exists between reality and surrealism. Employing a biomorphic approach, the surface of the installation not only presents the naturally complex porous structure of corals but also retains a condensed texture similar to mineral fossils.
The special gray-white tone on the work’s surface simulates the color critical point of coral bleaching—a transitional state that is neither complete death nor vibrant existence. When light passes through the layered branching structure, it casts trembling shadows resembling underwater light spots on the exhibition hall floor, making viewers feel as if they are in an underwater light and shadow theater.
This work is both an elegy to the ocean and a revelation for the future. It invites us to gaze at this contradictory beauty: gray-white is not only a warning color for the endangered ecosystem but also a primitive color for nature to reshape itself. Deep within the branches that seem withered, there actually lie hidden codes of life waiting for rebirth—just like human civilization itself, which has always been seeking a path of symbiosis at the boundary between destruction and creation.
